When Oliver Cromwell went to Ireland, two brothers from the family accompanied him. For their military services they were rewarded with land in the Counties of Cork and Tipperary. A descendent, Barry Yelverton, was Attorney-General and Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer in Ireland and was later awarded the title of Baron Yelverton in 1795 and again advanced to the title of Viscount Avonmore.
