Two Chinese Decorated Red Lacquer Boxes Late 19th-Early 20th Century The first, lotus form, the lid enamel and gilt painted with a blue bird perched on a flowering and fruiting pomegranate branch against a gilt diaper ground, surrounded by five ruyi-form reserves painted with flowering branches and a peach branch alternating with suspended shou characters, the base painted with lotus scrolls; the second, compressed bulbous form, the lid painted with a blue and gilt five-clawed dragon surrounded by sinuous dragons in clouds, the sides of the lid and base painted with chilongs alternating with shou character roundels.
