Autograph Document and Letter to Samuel Adams from Jeremiah Powell
SAMUEL ADAMS (1722-1803) Patriot, Signer of Declaration of Independence, 3rd Lieutenant-Governor and 4th Governor of Massachusetts. Handwitten document signed (ADS) while Delegate from Massachusetts to the Continental Congress (1774-1781), 3-1/2 x 4-1/2 inches, dated September 4, 1776. Clipped from a commission and laid down on paper. Together with a handwritten letter signed (ALS) from Jeremiah Powell as President of the Council of the Massachusetts Bay Colony to Samuel Adams ("& other Members of Congress"), bifolium with integral address panel, dated March 10, 1779, which requests "immediate attention to its contents as some difficulties have arisen from the unsettled Powers of the French Consul in this Port." The second with water damage, seal tear not affecting any content.
