New York: Dodge Publishing Company, 1905. First Edition thus. 4to. 10.25 x 8". Sumptuous Art Nouveau binding in full brown morocco by John F. Grabau in 1927, front cover with inset jeweled gold amphora oval cabochon agate, beaded cat's-eye, coral, bloodstone, turquoise, garnet, matrix, opal, amethyst, sardonyx and pearl, both pastedowns in full morocco, facing endpaper in burgundy silk moiré. Near fine throughout. Housed in partially broken card box with Grabau's printed label, Buffalo, NY.

With 27 photogravures by Adelaide Hanscom printed on tissue paper. Hand-illuminated for Frederick Guile Stanley by his sister Irene Stanley Martin. Illuminations include: full page stating the illuminator's intent as well as naming Grabau as binder; two photogravures framed with illumination; the full title; and two pages of text. In addition, there are five printed pages with quotes by Joaquin Miller, Adelaide Hanscom, Charles Keeler, George Sterling and George Wharton James, explained by John Grabau's presentation in manuscript, These and the following Poems and Letters are copied from the Autographed volume owned by John F. and Minnie M. Grabau and passed to my friend Frederick G. Stanley who is much interested. March 1927 John F. Grabau Buffalo, NY. George Warton James' signed inscription mounted on one page, a good friend of Grabau. Inscribed on another page and in manuscript, To my loved sister and Dear Doctor Accept this book, not for the sake of its philosophy but for the rare exotic flowers in these verses which for her so beautifully translated into the English verse by a 'Prince of Poets'.
