    Provenance:
  • Notes:
    Poul Cadovious (1911 - 2011), originally trained as an upholster, quickly became interested in design and opened his own independent furniture company; involved in a myriad of projects, including managing a boatyard, he would develop over 400 patents throughout his long career. At the time, one complaint of traditional furniture was that it occupied a majority of a normal person's usable floor-space; through the creation of 'floating' shelving systems, Cadovius circumvented this storage-versus-space problem. Understandably, this design would win a gold medal at the 1950 Finland Furniture Fair and a silver medal at the 1957 XI Triennale di Milano and would remain popular through time until the present, where it has been reproduced by dk3 since 2010.
  • Dimensions:
  • Height of larger fall-front (pegboard back): 20-1/4 in (51.4 cm);
    Width: 31-1/2 in (80 cm); Depth: 15 in ( 38.1 cm);
    Height of smaller fall-front (Masonite back): 16-3/4 in (42.5 cm);
    Width: 31-1/2 in (42.5 cm); Depth 14-3/4 in (37.5 cm)
  • Condition:
  • A few scattered minor indentations, notches, and lesser chipped losses, particularly to back edges, especially of masonite backing; uneven handling wear with associated variations in finish, pigmentation; age-appropriate handling wear with associated scratching and abrasion commensurate with use.

    As a courtesy, condition reports for any lot are available from Weschler's prior to the sale, upon request. Such a condition report should in no instance replace first hand inspections by a prospective buyer or his/her agent. Any description of a lot’s dimensions and weights is approximate. Descriptions we make about lots may not describe all faults or restorations.

    All property is sold "As Is" in accordance with the terms set forth in paragraph 1C of Conditions of Sale.

    Neither Weschler's nor the Consignor makes any express or implied warranty or representation as to the condition of any lot offered for sale, and no statement made at any time, whether oral or written, shall constitute such a warranty or representation.

    Weights given for stones we offer for sale are based solely on measurements and known gemological formula; they are approximate, not exact. Weight may differ once a stone is removed from its setting. You are advised to verify weight estimates prior to bidding at auction.

    While we do our best to protect the framing on the artwork, we will not be responsible for damage, regardless of cause.

    Weschler's will not remove an item out of its frame for shipping purposes once the lot has been sold. It is the purchaser's responsibility to find a third-party shipper who specializes in fine art handling for these cases.

We are happy to recommend a number of local and national shipping specialists (a list of these shippers is included with invoices), but it is the responsibility of each purchaser to make their own shipping arrangements.

Keep in mind, property may not be released without receipt of purchase payment. In addition, once you have finalized shipping arrangements you must notify our shipping department to confirm your intentions. No property will be released without your confirmation with our office.

The purchaser acknowledges that if they use any Weschler's staff members to assist in moving, packing, or loading purchases, Weschler's will not be held liable for any damages that may occur.

The purchaser will be required to pay the Sales Tax unless: (i) the property purchased is for resale and a valid Resale Tax number is presented to Weschler's business office at the time of payment, and the sales price is $200 or more; or (ii) the property is being shipped to a buyer located outside the state of Maryland by an ICC/USDOT licensed shipper/carrier.

Per our Terms of Sale, all property must be removed from our premises within four (4) business days post-sale from a Metro Timed Auction or ten (10) business days post-sale from a Capital Collections Auction.

For Metro Auctions, if items are not picked up by the following Monday after the auction or do not have firm shipping arrangements made, then a $5 storage fee per lot, per business day will be charged and your online account will be suspended.
