Otto Walter Beck (Am. 1864-1954 Adelaide Smith Signed O.W. Beck and dated 1914, l.l Pastel on paper 58-3/4 x 40-3/4in 149.2 x 103.5 cm) Adelaide Smith was one of the first Army nurses. From Brooklyn, she volunteered with Grant's army through the Peninsular campaign. The silver cup at her left is the cup which she carried all through the war and with which she gave water to thousands of men.
