    This is likely the portrait of Emperor Nicolas which was commissioned by Joseph Harrison, Jr. of Philadelphia, upon his return from Russia in 1852.

    Provenance:
    Likely acquired directly from the artist by Joseph Harrison, Jr. and then by descent to current owner. E.D. Marchant and Joseph Harrison, Jr. were both board members of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art.

    Exhibited:
    This work was part of the private collection of Joseph Harrison, Jr. and is listed in the exhibition catalogue of his collection: Catalogue of Pictures, Statuary and Bronzes in the Gallery of the Late Joseph Harrison, Jr., Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia, 1874, no. 180. It is noted as being painted from a miniature.

  • Under black light: overall with scattered restoration and uneven milky-green varnish; relined with aluminum backing, old varnish appears to have been cleaned in areas of uniform, overall with craquelure.

While Weschler's does not provide packing and shipping services other than jewelry purchases, we do have a list of recommended third party shippers to assist you. It is the responsibility of each purchaser to make their own shipping arrangements.

Keep in mind, property may not be released without receipt of purchase payment. In addition, once you have finalized shipping arrangements you must notify our shipping department to confirm your intentions. No property will be released without your confirmation with our office.

Maryland Sales Tax is computed on this total purchase price. The purchaser will be required to pay the Sales Tax unless: (i) the property purchased is for resale and a valid Resale Tax number is presented to Weschler's business office at the time of payment, and the sales price is $200 or more; or (ii) the property is being shipped to a buyer located outside the state of Maryland by an ICC/USDOT licensed shipper/carrier.

Please note that all property must be removed from our premises within one week (7 days) post-sale from a Capital Collections auction and three (3) days post-sale from a Metro Online or Timed auction.
