American Silver Five-Piece Coffee and Tea Service
William B. Heyer, New York, 1798-1827
Consisting of a coffeepot, teapot, covered sugar urn, cream jug and a waste bowl; each with engraved inscription Beale below an applied scrolling leafage band. Each impressed W.B. HEYER within a recessed rectangle. The coffeepot with denting to lid and to base at one ball foot.

  • Provenance:
    By repute, the silver coffee and tea service was given to Emily Truxtun by her father, Commodore Thomas Truxtun, upon her marriage to George Mancreed Beale (circa 1810). Commodore Thomas Truxtun was the commanding officer of the USS Constellation during the Quasi-War with France, 1798-1800, and was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in March of 1800.
  • Condition:
  • The coffeepot with denting to lid and to base at one ball foot (per catalogue). The coffeepot with small dent to top of handle, lid does not sit flush with opening, finial slightly bent and dent to tip of spout. The teapot with possible repair to two ball feet where they meet the base. The sugar bowl with denting to edge of lid. The cream jug with small dent to handle.
