    Note:
Described as a "design polymath" (Watson, p. 175), Feint was primarily known for his illustrations and, more importantly, his bookplates during the inter-war period. During the late 1920s, Australian bookplates were something of a rage in the United States. According to an article in the Brisbane Courier, June 27, 1931, at the annual exhibition of the "Bookplate Association International" held in Los Angeles in 1927, next to the United States, Australia had the largest collection of bookplates on display. Feint won the prize for best woodcut design at this exhibition in 1930.

The Society of Bookplate Collectors and Designers was headquartered in Washington, DC and printed two articles on Australian designers in 1929 and 1930, one of which was solely dedicated to Adrian Feint. His bookplates were so widely admired by the society that an exhibition of his work was organized and held in the Division of Fine Arts, Library of Congress in 1930. Carlyle S. Baer, the original owner of "The Green Pineapple" was the secretary of this organization.

From Feint's own meticulous record keeping, we know that this was his second attempt at a work on canvas, the first being, in his own words, "scraped" [sic]. This painting, illustrated in the 1929 "Art in Australia" article as an example of a new and emerging aesthetic in Australia which embraced color and design over more traditional art, may be regarded as one of the pivotal works which contributed to the acceptance and shift towards modernism in Australian art.
