    Notes:
Edgar William Brandt (French 1880 - 1960), the Parisian-born metallurgist comes from a long line of religiously Protestant and habitually industrious craftspeople in France; at 13, he was fortunate to have been accepted by the prestigious L'Ecole Nationale Professionnelle de Vierzon - to hone his metalwork and prepare him for his own atelier upon graduation, concurrent to the influences of Art Nouveau. Brandt started to make a name for himself by exhibiting his work through the Salon des Artistes Decorateures in 1903, shortly thereafter his work was gradually taken more seriously by design critics and getting commissions for larger scale projects, including the Escalier Mollien, Staircase at the Louvre, unveiled in 1914. Following his call for national duty during WWI, Brandt returned to Paris and his company, expanding it to near 3,000 workers, in-step with the growing demand and improved technology of rapid post-war modernization in Europe. While Brandt was always forward thinking of technological improvement, frequently collaborating with other companies and artisans to elevate commissions, he also never failed to appreciate the value of an aesthetic eye and dedication to traditional craft methods, helping to immortalize his work that would be showcased at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes in 1925.
