Pair of Meissen 'Schneeballen' Covered Urns
After a Model by Johann Johannes Kaendler, Late 19th-Early 20th Century
Each having a baluster body raised on a domed base, overall encrusted with blossoms and applied with 'snowball' blossoms, leaves and two song birds; the lower section of the body reticulated and enclosing a figure of a bird; each complementary lid surmounted by a pair of birds. Underside of each with underglaze blue crossed swords mark. Losses and restorations to birds; some chips to flowers and leaves.

    Left urn: top with restoration to wing and tail of one bird; restoration to top of wing, beak and tail of second bird; restoration to branch bird is sitting on; losses to applied leaves; yellow bird with loss to beak, restoration to both wings, tail and leg and was reattached to urn; sparrow with loss to beak, area of missing blossoms below sparrow and near foot rim; overall with losses and minor restorations to applied leaves and vines

    Right urn: Top with restoration to one wing and tail of one bird; the other with restoration to tip of wing; some losses to applied leaves; chip to underside of top; yellow bird with restoration to beak, wings and tail; sparrow with loss to beak, loss to tip of wing and restoration to tail; overall with losses and some restorations to leaves and vines. Each overall with some losses to applied blossoms, some blossoms lacking decoration.
