This sculpture represents an early casting by Elizabeth Catlett. Negro Woman was cast from a terracotta original, which is currently in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Another edition of this work was featured in the exhibition Elizabeth Catlett & Benny Andrews held at Hemphill Fine Arts, Washington, DC, September 14-October 29, 2016.
