George III Satinwood Inlaid Octagonal Box and a Regency Parquetry Mixed Wood Sewing Box
Late 18th-Early 19th Century
The first, with a hinged top having a central marquetry conch shell on a green-stain ground within a Tunbridge border and a laurel wreath, opening to view a storage compartment; the second, sarcophagus-form with the top having a cubed parquetry panel within rope inlay above a body of ebonized and mixed wood triangular banding, opening to view a blue paper-lined interior with a removable tray, raised on brass ball feet. The first with some chips and losses to inlay particularly to the top; the second with some restorations to inlay.
